Opera "Turbo" Improves on Compressing and Downloading

Hey guys I just happened to come across this article today and thought it was interesting. I think I'm going to do a little more research on the topic. This program is supposedly able to compress files quicker, and download files quicker. Which for people who work with many images, it sounds like a pretty sweet deal!

Designing with Water

One large concern now days is the increase in sea levels, and the affect it is having on our climates. Now days there are many areas near the coast that won't be insured. Many scientists and designers have come together to find ways to incorporate these water issues within city spaces. This way the affects of the issue won't be so bad.

Here is a five page article on the topic. Check it out!

Digging Up Energy Right Out of Your Backyard

So consider this, lessen the use of fossil fuels. No longer need to pay for an energy consumption bill all by digging up energy out of your backyard. Sound too good to be true? Well here is an interesting article that I found in the New York Times published on March 7th, 2011 about a couple who did just that. They are using geothermal technology to heat their home. It sounds pretty awesome definitely something to consider!

Phone or Laptop You Decide

Hey all,

So I know this post isn't the usual architectural innovation however I happen to come across this article within Forbes. As much as I use my smart phone for work and more than just talking I found it pretty interesting. Imagine not having to carry around a laptop or any book for the matter. At least that's how I envision the technology continuing to grow!

Daylighting - "Mastering the Solar Universe"

In relation to what I will be talking about in my broadcast on February 22nd, 2011, I came across a wonderful article in my Architectural Products January-February 2011 Issue (Architectural Products) Titled "Mastering the Solar Universe". It was about daylighting and the growing need and use it has within the architectural and interior design fields. It talks about the ways it is literally shaping architecture as we know it. One of the coolest and newest items I came across was Custom mounted roller shades that are directly mounted and become one with the architecture. I encourage you to check out their website. Think about the possibilities that our cities could soon look like using this amazing technology! The shades are eco-friendly and LEED certified. For those of you who might not know what LEED is, building projects have to go through certain eco-friendly processes, and building practices in order to achieve certification. There are different levels of certification within LEED. For more information on LEED go to U.S. Green Building Council

Drop me a comment or an email if you have any questions!

By the way Thanks for the previous comments guys! I'm enjoying them!

164 Years in the Making

In honor of Thomas Edison's 164th Birthday today (Thomas Edison), I have come across an interesting post on how a Canadian Waste Plant is turning wasted soda and beer into a clean energy source. I know living in a college town most of you are probably thinking why would they waste beer and soda on clean energy, when people could drink it. However they apparently are using expired products that would have just been pulled off the shelf and gone down the drain anyways. Just think of the possibilities.....These products create ethanol a clean burning fuel. It's amazing where we have come from in the past 100 years. It all started with the light bulb! :)

New Ways to Visit The Gallery

So I don't know if most of you have already seen this yet, but as an avid "Googler" I happen to come across this new thing Google has come up with. It's called The Art Project. I noticed it when I popped up there home page this morning on my Chrome! It's actually pretty neat! What they have done is gone to quite a few major museums and begun compiling images. To give the user a virtual walk through of these museums. So far I have glanced through the Palace of Versailles. It's always been somewhere I've wanted to check out. Now I can  do it from the comforts of my home while being snowed in! Perfect! It reminds me of Google Maps, just for art junkie's like me. Of course there aren't tons of images compiled yet, but I encourage you to check it out!

Spray-on Film Turns Windows into Solar Panels

How about this, utilizing current window space and turning it into transparent solar panels. This article is a few months old, however I found it very interesting due to its nature! They are developing a spray on film that would still allow the windows to be transparent, but would harness the sun's solar energy. Think of the amount of energy that could be contained on a single skyscraper if they were able to perfect this innovation. It would be a great source for renewable energy. Hello sunlight, good-bye coal and black smoke pollution, well maybe someday. Untill that day comes keep an eye out on this and other solar technologies like it. They are prediciting that they may have it fully developed by 2016.  Continue to let me know what you think! I'm loving the comments..... :)

"Solar Powered Smart Roads Could Zap Snow and Ice"

Don't get me wrong I love an occasional snow day, however wouldn't it be nice to be able to wake up the next morning and admire the snow from a pleasantly melted road or sidewalk. You wouldn't have to worry about slipping on ice, or experiencing the wet bootleg that happens once you finally make it inside. I personally wouldn't mind being able to go the places I would want to go without letting a few inches of snow stand in my way! This article is precisely about that. They have come up with a way to harness solar energy and use it towards melting roadways! However don't expect it to happen anytime soon.............but wouldn't it be nice, just think about it! :)
